Faux Finless Pheasant

Heading into 2018, I was feeling inspired to try something new with my surf routine.  I have been seeing more and more finless surfing clips that had my imagination working overtime. 

As a first step into the frictionless world of finless surfing, I decided to take the center fin out of my 6'6 Pleasant Pheasant, and try surfing it with the the side-bites as "training wheels".

Yesterday was Day 1 of this exploration, and I have to say, the board tracked much better and held much better with only the side-bites, than I would have imagined.

Definitely had to ease into my bottom-turns a bit, and I did notice the board generating a surprising amount of speed on its own—without pumping of any kind—once I found the right line.

Didn't complete any spins or anything like that, but loved the point-and-shoot, effortless speed of riding this board low and tight to the pocket. Excited to keep at it and thoroughly encouraged by Day 1.
