Why we chose the 72 Carrera RS 2.7

When we started talking about a second collaboration with Porsche, we kept coming back to one car: the 1972-1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
It wasn’t just the bold graphics or the ducktail spoiler (though both are iconic). It’s what that car represented. The RS 2.7 was built so Porsche could go racing—but it was still street-legal. It was light, fast, and stripped down to the essentials. Nothing extra. Everything purposeful.
There’s something about that idea—refining things to their most essential form—that really resonates with us.
Only about 1,500 were made, but the legacy of that car has lasted decades. It was the first time Porsche used the word “Carrera” on a 911. And it helped define what the 911 would become for generations.
For us, the RS 2.7 is a reminder that good design is timeless. That less can be more. And that performance and simplicity aren’t mutually exclusive. And if you are wondering why we are calling it a 1972 when most people know it as a 1973 here in the US, it's because Porsche internally considers the model year '72 because that is the year it was built. Even though many collectors will refer to it as model year '73.
By whichever year you credit with the development of this car, we felt that the stripped down simplicity, power, and timeless design were too good not to celebrate with our second collection with Porsche. You can shop the entire collection—including 72 numbered custom boards—at our shop in Costa Mesa or from Porsche.com
